Educational
Needs
Education is a key factor in helping the tribal people of India escape poverty and illness. Impact for
India supports three different schools in an effort to help children and young people gain the educational
advantage they need to have good jobs and hope for the
future.
Church of Christ School
The Church of Christ School in Bhimavaram provides food, housing and education for students from Kindergarten
through 10th grade (10th grade is the end of high school in India). Over 1200 students have graduated
from this award winning school since its inception in 1982. The school has been recognized in the local
press for its high test scores and its success in area athletic competitions.
Browning Junior College
Browning Jr. College was established in 1993 and has had over 1600 graduates. The primary emphasis of
the college is to provide vocational training for students who then return to their villages as health
care workers, teachers or in some other vocation that
allows them to give back something to their village
while having steady income for themselves. As part of their practical training, students travel to villages
to conduct health clinics and AIDS and diabetes awareness programs. Students provide free diabetes screening,
blood pressure checks and other services. This type of service is invaluable in a country that now has
the highest number of HIV infected population and an above average rate of diabetes.
Coastal Bible College
The Coastal Bible College opened its doors in 1996 and has had over 60 graduates. These students come
to learn how to be effective ministers so that they may return to
their villages and plant churches.
Prior to graduation they must also complete vocational training so that they may work as self-supporting
ministers.
