Adopt a Widow
Widows in India suffer many hardships. In the past, it was believed that widows would bring bad luck
and so they were often ostracized from their family and from society. A widow was not even permitted
to let her shadow fall on a new bride. The future of a widow was so bleak that they would often throw
themselves (or be thrown) onto their deceased husband’s funeral pyre where they would be burned alive.
This practice was eventually outlawed (although it still persists in some regions today) but the plight
of the widow is still a desperate and lonely one. The India Ministry has provided widows with financial
assistance and the opportunity to get a step up through various means of employment. The widows also
make house visits and do volunteer work for their local churches.
It only takes only a few dollars per month to support a widow. This small donation will help provide a widow with clothing,
blankets, food and other necessities of life. If you would like to adopt a widow please let us know
